SUSTAINABILITY
LISH has been utilizing sustainable practices and ethical sourcing since 2003 and is committed to becoming more sustainable moving forward. Sustainability is more than just reducing our carbon footprint. Sustainability includes our social, economic, cultural, and environmental. Keep reading to understand the measures we have taken toward each of these pillars.
All the beds, bandanas, bow ties, hats, cotton tote bags, and wool blankets are made in the heart of East London at the LISH studio. All else (aside from our sweaters) are made locally in England, supporting local businesses with ethical practices. Making goods locally dramatically decreases our carbon miles and footprint. Allowing us to continue our business without harming the environment
Our sweaters are hand-knitted by women in Nepal. We have been working with them since 2004. They use traditional skills handed down from generation to generation. Hand knitting provides women the opportunity to work achieving financial independence and enabling them to support their families.
All Cotton, Corduroy, and Linen fabrics are all sourced from Europe. Sourcing locally allows us to reduce the carbon miles a product must travel prior to reaching the customer (you!). These three fabric types are all OEKO-TEX® Standard Certified.
Our wool is sourced from New Zealand, where farmers follow the Animal Welfare (Care and Procedures) Act. Wool is an extremely sustainable fibre to use as it biodegrades after being disposed of, and it returns valuable nutrients back to the soil. In addition to sourcing from ethical farmers, LISH follows the best practices set out in the Dumfries House Wool Declaration in The Campaign for Wool, patron HRH Prince Charles.
All our Harris Tweed cloth is woven by crofters in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland. These heritage tweeds can be found here.
All Elwin coats, doggy duvets, and travel blankets are quilted with recycled fibres. Shop the collection here.
LOOKING TO THE FUTURE
While we are proud of the effort we have put forth to be as ethical and sustainable as possible, we know that this is an evolving topic. There is still progress we can make, and we all have room to grow and learn. LISH is pledging to be carbon neutral by 2028.
